Here at the Homeschooling section of Parenting Report, you don’t need to feel judged for schooling (or unschooling) your kids at home. You don’t need to explain yourself (though sharing your stories is encouraged and welcome!). You don’t need to give us a disclaimer about how you support teachers and schools but… We get you. We get that you are trying to give your children the best possible advantage in both education and in life, and welcome you here.
This isn’t a place to ridicule or shun homeschoolers. This is, however, a place for reflection, questions, advice, and above all, camaraderie. This is a place to share your information with other homeschoolers and swap resources, tips, and other help. It’s a place where you can learn about all different kinds of homeschooling—whether it’s Waldorf or Montessori or unschooling or anything else—and if we can’t help each other, we can share websites and resources that can provide us with the information we need.
This is also a fun place! Feel free to share your silly stores, funny things you kids say, or just brag about what cool experiments or interests your kiddos are chasing at the moment. Post photos of your recent field trips if you want, or funny videos about homeschooling in general. Recipes, craft projects, themes, family deals and coupons, free or low-cost curriculum sources, and any other resources are all welcome, too. Know of a free movie deal going on with a certain theater, a restaurant where kids eat free, a craft store with free demos or projects, or any other events that might appeal to a wide range of homeschoolers? Share them here.
Feel free to stay anonymous; in fact, giving your children nicknames instead of using their real names is recommended. Many homeschool blogs do this to protect their children’s anonymity for both their present and future reputations. As cute as we might think it is that Little Johnny ran naked in the backyard chasing butterflies, potential employers searching for him may not! We wouldn’t want him getting embarrassed running across the story later, either.
Keep in mind this is a respectful space in which to explore and share, not to belittle or berate. Different people define homeschooling differently; it rarely looks exactly the same in any two households. One family’s realization of unschooling is likely vastly different from another’s. Please keep this in mind while posting.
We hope you’ll stay around and share your stories with us. Welcome, again, to the Homeschooling Page!
