Babies are so much fun and the bigger they get the more interactive fun you can have together. When they are first born it’s all about eating, burping and pooping with a side of sleep. Don’t get me wrong, I love newborns and everything about them but there is nothing like that first real smile instigated by you playing peek-a-boo or blowing raspberries on the bottom of their cute, little feet. I find myself constantly finding different games and silly sounds to get my little one to give me an ear to ear grin and if I’m lucky, some of that contagious baby laughter.
Now that my son is pushing the 8 month mark, I have had to step it up with our peek-a-boo routine. Mommy always being the one to pop out has gotten way too predictable for my smart little boy. Instead of me surprising him I use his favorite toy or stuffed animal and give it a silly voice. That always gets a good giggle and as long as I change it up when I notice him losing interest, he’ll stay happy with it for quite a while. He also likes to hide himself with his receiving blankets and scare mommy. A great way to keep him entertained while changing his diaper.
Everything is an instrument and music brightens everyone’s day. First of all, step away from the classical music for a minute and get silly. There are so many bands out there that are dedicated to kids with silly songs, you’re sure to find a group or two that you’ll love. Grab your little one and sing and dance the afternoon away. Or have baby on the floor watching you dance silly. My son loves to watch his mommy and big sissy being silly like that and even tries to mimic some of our moves.
Babies learn routine early and routine is good. But changing small things in the routine are also found to be hilarious to babies. For example, my son knows that the bottle goes in HIS mouth and cups are for mommy. The baby spoon goes in HIS mouth and big spoons go in mommy’s mouth. But when the tables turn and the bottle goes for mommy’s mouth or his bites turn into my bites, he just can’t get enough. Babies really are easy to please and it doesn’t take expensive, loud and annoying toys to tickle their funny bone. As long as you’re a part of it your baby is sure to love it.
