While big businesses—from Ameren UE to Google and dozens of others—get off on paying taxes (and face even more tax cuts if politicians get their way), the government is threatening our country by shutting down—much like a child does when he doesn’t want to get dressed or eat his breakfast, right moms and dads?—and it’s working families who will suffer most. Politicians are refusing to pass the budget until most of the programs that middle class and poor families depend on—from food stamps to Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to Medicaid—are all cut significantly.

This is simply outrageous. While we pay them to act on our behalf—to protect us and make sure that our families are spoken for and safe—they instead turn their backs on us, threatening the very services that we depend on for survival while they give their big business friends—who are already making record profits—even more tax breaks. I know families who will not survive if these cuts are made, and we have to speak up for them, and 30 million kids on Medicaid alone are at risk.
